It’s March 21st and it's still very much winter. (At least for us Midwest and East Coasters. You West Coasters can go kick rocks!! I’m just jealous....)
But guess what, guys? Winter is going to end. And it's going to end soon.
In 3 weeks time, you will be asking yourself, “WTF just happened? I was freezing cold in my pajamas 2 weeks ago eating cookies, and NOW I’m supposed to look all cute in a sundress? My legs haven't seen sunlight in 6 months, all my clothes don't fit and I have no real clue where all my muscle mass went. I’m just not ready for this!”
We humans have short memories. This abrupt change of seasons happens every year, but for some reason we just can’t remember what it feels like to ever be warm again!
That’s why today, I’m bringing you 3 Ways to Prepare Your Body for Spring. Why? Because I want you to be ahead of the curve. I want you to feel groovy and unstoppable when that temperature turns up. And turn up, it will!
So what can you be doing to give yourself that head start?
#1 Get Back in the Exercise Routine Now
I know, I know. It sucks. It’s been snowy and cold and we’ve been cooped up all winter, pretending that stretching out on the couch and climbing stairs to our apartment is "real exercise.” We are all lazy, especially in winter, and it's easy to get in that winter slump! But hear me out. There is no single better thing you can do for yourself than move your body. Working out changes the brain and releases endorphins that will get you out of this winter funk! Your body will thank you, I promise.
How can you build up heat while it’s still cold outside?
- Take a spin class
- Take a hot yoga class
- Search “cardio workouts” on Youtube and do it in your own living room!
- Set a goal to exercise 2-4 times a week and stick to it!
#2 Eat Your Greens
Green is the color of spring! We often associate green with renewal, revitalization and energy. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, green is correlated with liver function, emotional stability, and creativity. Adding green to our diet helps to clear congestion in the lungs, improves blood circulation and promotes healthy intestinal flora. Who doesn't want all of those yummy benefits?!
So, how can you get your greens?

- Try incorporating greens into 2 out of 3 meals per day. See how that feels!
- Instead of fries with your sandwich or wrap, can you pick a salad? DO IT!
#3 Recommit to Your Goals
It’s March 21st, and so far 75ish days have passed since you made your New Year’s Resolutions. Are you still keeping them? If so, snaps for you Glen Coco! You go, Glen Coco! But for the rest of us, the depths of winter have dampened our resolve and have left us feeling a little less than motivated. These final 3 weeks before spring is the perfect time to reassess your goals for the year. We still have three-quarters of the year left and so much to accomplish!
